This book was written By Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.

The best  age of the reader for this book; eleven

The  genre of this book is fiction

This story is about a small boy  Danny and his dad. They live  together in a small rusted  caravan on the top of  a hill. His dad owns a small filling station on the side of the road at the  bottom of the hill. One night William, Danny’s dad goes poaching for pheasants in the woods of  a grouchy old man Mr hazel. When Danny finds out he’s missing and goes out in the middle of the night to find him in a human trap of mr hazels in the woods. His dad was badly hurt but the next day they had  help from his good friend  doctor Spencer when his dad was well rested Danny  immediately wanted to go poaching with his dad. His dad is nervous if Danny comes with him, he could  get hurt by the keepers.  But when Danny comes up with an excellent, most brilliant idea  to get a raisin and put a Quarter of a sleeping pill inside and sew it back up, then lay two hundred of them scattered around the woods for the pheasants to peck at and swallow. Soon they will go up in the trees to nest and bam! It’s raining pheasants.  His dad is thrilled with the idea  and  imagines  the red wrinkly pig face of Mr Hazel’s when he notices his pheasants are gone before his shooting party.

This story is set on a hill with an old camper van and a filling station including the woods of mr haze’ls and the town nearby.

The main characters are a brilliant young child Danny who wants to grow up and be a mechanic like his dad. William is Danny’s father  who looks after him everyday and works hard in his shed to fix cars and get money for the both of them. Another character is doctor Spencer doctor Spencer  is  a small old man and  Williams  good Friend hazel Mr hazel is a rich man, he grins and then he smirks  as he rides his Rolls Royce. His glary eyes  and his furious frown is always yelling at you with his piggy mouth.

I think this book was great. It had twists and turns that made you curious what was next? The people in this book were described as you could picture in your head the story idea was an interesting topic and at the end of the book things went funny and made me laugh  as some things turned out great and some totally the other way. And  some of the characters were mad and enraged!.

This book is good for readers who like funny stories and  not too big of a book that would take weeks to read. It is a  great book to read at any time of the day and has excellent characters throughout the entire book. In every chapter there is always something happening. This book is also a book for kids that like at least a few photos every few pages.
